Same-day delivery is available if you order by 8:30 a.m. The organic fruits & vegetables options were not as plentiful as Amazon’s, but what Vons did have was fresh and tasty. The organic navel oranges were cheaper than Amazon’s, but the organic baby spinach was more expensive than Trader Joe’s. The groceries were delivered on time with no packaging beyond the regular plastic grocery bags.
Cons
I checked the “No substitutions” option, but they swapped my whole-grain wheat bread for a seedy loaf anyway. Because the online Vons didn’t carry some of my standard items - organic broccoli, Bubbies dill pickles, unseasoned rice-wine vinegar - I had to order more chewing gum than I wanted and bay leaves I didn’t need just to reach my $49 minimum. The accidental ordering of peppermint whipped cream was pure operator error.
The verdict
Vons delivery is worth it for those who are extremely busy. It isn’t among the cheapest grocery delivery services - in fact, its fee is one of the highest - but because users can shop by history, the time spent placing orders online is minimal.
